Staff Training Platforms - LinkedIn Learning (formerly lynda.com)? Other platforms for standardized US Bookkeeping and Accounting Training?
I am starting a trial of LinkedIn Learning next week to see if it meets our needs, but I’m looking to give our staff a baselineIntentionAll staff trained the same way without drawing resources form existing staff members.RoadblocksIn the past, staff training is sometimes really good if we are organized and the people with the knowledge are available to train. Other times, we hire staff and are already behind on capacity, so the training isn’t handled well and new staff are left floundering.I’ve looked to the AICPA and other groups for standardized training for things like sales tax, bookkeeping, etc., but have come up empty handed. We will still do hands-on over-the-shoulder training, so no need to convince me of the importance of that. I’m curious if anyone has used and likes a standardized training platform or has any suggestions for how I might standardize my training without pulling away my highly skilled staff to train fundamental concepts.Other IdeasWe are also working to develop
I was wondering if anyone has a best practice for setting up personal tax (Canadian T1) work for families. Do you have work setup for each tax return that is being prepared or one for a family? We find it easier to track them all if there’s one for each, but have always wondered if there’s a better way for a family. Thanks!Jeff
Hi Karbon,Would you please consider including a “Group Level” client information section, which flows through to all members of the group. Currently, we need to edit team members for each entity. The other information (notes, etc) flows through the timeline in the “Client Group” contact, which is awesome. However, if we need to change, for example, client team members, we need to do this for each entity, and also for the “Client Group” contact. This is necessary for “@team” purposes, etc. There may be “entity by entity” matters which needs to be changed at an entity level. That is ok, and I’m not suggesting changes in this regard.Perhaps there is a “Client Group” field/section which only triggers when an organisation or contact is linked into a Client Group. That way, any information changed in this “Client Group” Section flows through to all the other group entities and the “Client Group” contact.Cheers,
My week is very divisive, and each member of our firm has different levels of success when utilizing it. Do other firms allow employees to use their My Week in a way that makes the most sense to them, or monitor usage so it’s the same throughout the firm? Ex. Some people put all their work for Today in Working on Now while others take it a few tasks at a time. Only wondering because when you go to check colleague’s week or share tasks within a work item with someone, “working on now” can still be a gray area. Want to see if there’s a standard use for it common between firms that use karbon!
When it comes to time charging against a specific work, the role available for selection in the drop down list should be limited to the role pre-set in the work. Same concept should be applied to the task types as well when charge the time to a work. This way will save time of staff to select from a long list with irelevant items, and most importantly, it will prevent staffs from mistakenly selecting wrong role etc.
We now encourage a lot to use comments for internal communication. There is an indicator in the pane to show how many staff can see the message. But when I click that, I cannot see which staff has the visibility.I am wondering, what is the quickest way to do that in current version of KARBON? And quickest way to remove those staff who is not required to be notified. and I would be happy to see if this feature can be added directly to show the staff name when I click on the visibility number. I am wondering if other peer firm may have the same need.
Hi all. So I’ve setup a client task, sent the email to the the client requesting information and then noticed a further query. I’ve now updated the client task with the new item. Do I need to resend the email or will the client see the new task automatically? TIA
How would you handle a template that offers more than one possible outcome? For example, if we have a 1099 work item and in the early stages we either determine no 1099s are required or the client tells us there are none required, how do we define the tasks? In such a case, we want the conclusions and workpapers of the staff member to be reviewed before the project is completed. In this case I would not want the next section, “Prepare 1099s,” to be triggered. But I do want the work item to be documented in karbon. We also prepare 1040s for a client that sends us their clients’ returns, several of whom do not have to file, but we make that determination as a part of our service to them. This would be a similar case. I’m new to Karbon and this is challenging! In summary, the early steps of the work item follow one path, but then depending on whether or not the returns are required to be filed it can go one of two ways. Thanks to anyone who can help!
For semi-monthly and monthly payroll jobs that are due X number of days before the end of the month (depending on how they are processed, ie: Gusto, ADP) how are you working with Karbon’s limited settings to have accurate due dates so that Payrolls are not missed?Since the end of the month fluctuates (28/29/30/31) and the payrolls are due X number of days before the end of the month + avoiding weekends, there is not an accurate way to set up these types of Payroll jobs in Karbon so that the due dates are an accurate reflection of when the Payroll actually needs to be processed. This is causing us to occasionally miss payrolls, especially when our team has to fill in for other team members who are out and when they are not familiar with when the clients payroll needs to be run. What are your workarounds for recurring jobs that are due at/near the end of the month, but aren’t always due on the same day of the month? Aside from setting up each Payroll job individually (non-recurring) or ad
We have emails that are sent to our entire team in outlook so the individual email addresses are not included. So the first issue is the BCC issue which we see discussed. For now we are working around that by forwarding the email then saving it. But we got an email that related to SBA loan forgiveness that we want the entire team to be able to see. Emails like that we’d to attach to our team but emails appear to be only able to attach to work or contacts. Is there anyway to attach it to the team so everyone on our team can have access?BTW thank you for all the people who have helped me with our questions. It’s quite an impressive community.
I would like the ability to pin a note to a work timeline that actually repeats along with the repeating work schedule. This would be useful for a background note for the work that doesn’t change, not actually a task.Does anyone else feel like this would be useful and do you have a workaround?
We are currently using a cloud-based ERP solution to manage our time sheets, but would like to use Karbon instead to manage time sheets. however there seems to be no API allowing us to perform such operation. Can you please let me know when you plan to develop further API’s to allow greater automation with other apps.Thank youChristian
How do others tackle overall work assignee’s when it’s a long project and there’s multiple people involved?. Our Annual Financial Statements work can last up to 9 months and involve 4 different people, in different roles (Accountant, Client Manager, Partner & Admin). Currently we assign the overall work to the Client Manager. However, that means that lots of stuff appears in their My Week, when they don’t actually have to do any tasks on that project until it is already substantially started (Admin & Accountant take care of everything up to work review stage) I have seen on a webinar the use of dummy team members, using fake email addresses, and wondered if that was a solution. When looking back, I can’t find the webinar now...I think it was something mentioned in a Sara/ Andii webinar. Anyone use this facility or can point me in the right direction, please?
The team is required to maintain their continuing education, for example QBO certifications. I feel like there needs to be a piece of work for each team member for their certification, but who is the client for that piece of work. If I create an internal client that the team has access to and can create work under, then all team members will have access to the emails/work for each other and their certifications. I’m not sure how I feel about that. There may also be other work that needs to be tracked that would go under that internal client.Does anyone have any ideas or can share how they are handling this?
I’ve got an idea where when a work item hits a certain stage, such as:Books closed each month; Tax return in for review; Tax return ready for signature; etc. That an email automatically sends to the client.Currently for our month-end close work item, I’ve got a client task as the last section so that the bookkeeper can send an email to the client saying their books are now closed. On top of this, even if it’s not possible to automatically send this when the last internal task is completed, it would be awesome to send the notification but without an actual client task. More like an email being sent but associated with a specific work item. That way the client doesn’t need to login and mark off the task. I was looking through the API documentation to see if there’s a way to send an email but it doesn’t look like it. That might’ve worked because the email would be associated with the work item it’s being sent about to notify the client of a change in the work item status that they may wa
For those using Karbon billing, do you know why “Actual (time period)” is different from “Actual”. I found if I run a certain period, it’s not the same. It seem “Actual” capturing all the time in the work item since work item has been created but “Actual (time period)” only revelant the period you run for?
