Slack integration, Companies House enhancements + more

Add a Slack conversation to a Karbon timeline and assign it as a task to colleagues with the Karbon-Slack integration. This release also includes enhancements to the Companies House integration, a change to the default resource planning week for recurring work items, and the ability to accept New Zealand card payments.

Slack integration

Slack can be great for quick, fleeting conversations. But these often turn into conversations that should be organized in a more permanent location with greater accountability. Karbon’s integration with Slack solves this.

You can now take any post from Slack and add it as a note on a Karbon timeline. You also have the option to assign the note to a colleague and add a due date.

Learn more and bridge the gap between your instant chat tool, and your team collaboration and workflow.

Companies House integration enhancements

The Companies House integration, which allows United Kingdom customers to connect their organisation contacts, has been given several improvements that will save time and keep client records accurate:

  • Add Organisations in Karbon from Companies House by searching for the Company Number or Company Name. Company details will be automatically brought into Karbon from the Companies House record.
  • Existing Organisation Contacts can be linked to their corresponding Companies House record.
  • Companies House details can be surfaced in Karbon on the Details tab of an organisation contact, making it easier to find and review information about a client.

Default resource planning week change

When you’re scheduling a work item to repeat, the Resource Planning option lets you choose when future work items will appear in My Week for the assignee and anyone else on the work team. This option now defaults to the ‘Week of start date’ so that no manual planning is required. If you’d prefer not to have a planned week set, you can still choose this as an option.

New Zealand card payments

Card payments are now available in New Zealand as part of the Billing & Payments beta program. New Zealand clients can pay using their credit or debit card for invoices sent through Karbon.

Good change 🙂

My team loves the Slack feature. Great job on that!

I was part of the Beta testing for the Slack integration.  I absolutely love this feature.  I highly recommend giving it a try.

Is there a chance Microsoft Teams chat will have an integration soon?

@Lachlan Macindoe I see that the Karbon integration isn’t approved by Slack. Is this something Karbon is pursuing? (Having Slack independently verify E2EE as part of their acceptance process would be comforting.)

Absolutely! “not approved by Slack” just means it’s not been reviewed by Slack and isn’t available in their Marketplace. We’re in the process of the Slack application being reviewed at the moment and it should be available there soon.

At the moment, the interest seems very low - so it’s not something we’ve prioritised for 2024. If you (or anyone else) haven’t voted on the linked feature, please jump in and upvote it.

Some user feedback on the Slack integration - you cannot see who wrote the message on Slack. For example, a note was written by a client but as we posted it from Slack to Karbon, it looks like the Karbon user wrote it (not the client). So if you are tagging a message in Slack, best to write "From Client Name" or similar when posting so it’s clearer.

We also tested messages with images, when the original Slack message has an image in it, the image disappears when posted to Karbon.

Thanks for the feedback @AntoniyaB. - we’d heard of Firms sharing Slack with their clients, but this makes sense - we’ll see what we can do to include the author’s information in the post.
The images (or other attachments) will be a little trickier - but I can definitely see how that could be useful.

Voted! I hope this gains some traction. And being able to utilize with client communications and images as well would be helpful. Any chance that would also be able to include documents sent in messages?

Looks like the integration doesn’t support attachments of any sort. This really limits value to us. So, big +1 on this feature request.

It would be great if this worked with repeating work created from contacts
