Hello,

Is there anyway to utilize the current naming conventions to display quarterly engagements for recurring work items? For example, we would like to have a work item labeled “Accounting Services - Q3 2024” and create a naming scheme that rolls the years and quarters forward properly. We current have the months of the quarter in the work title but its far less clean. Any advice on this?

Best,

Nick

Hi @Nick Beaudoin, what we do is a naming convention like:

Accounting Services for quarter ending Sep 2024

We use Karbon billing, so our work names are a little more invoice friendly (longer, lol).

@Nick Beaudoin for recurring quarterly work items we create 4 separate work items that each recur on a quarterly basis. Using your example, we would create a work item called “Accounting Services - Q1” and in the recurring work settings, we add the  “YYYY” naming convention. We would then do this for the remaining 3 quarters. It is extra work up front with creating extra work items, but we have found this to work well for our uses.

If you have your work item set to start on the 1st of the new quarter you could also set up a naming convention to show the periods of the quarter. For example:

  • Work item start date must be 1st of the month of the new quarter. Example: October 1 for quarter-end July to September 2024
  • Naming convention might be Quarterly Payroll Tax Filing for Jul-Sep 2024
  • So you’d set this up in the naming convention of the work item as:
    • Quarterly Payroll Tax Filling for <Start date -80 days (MMM)>-<Start date -1 day (MMM. YYYY)>
